Escape to Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island

Once a sleepy island and one of Vietnam’s hidden jewels, Phu Quoc Island is getting to be a popular beach destination for foreign travelers. Its fantastic beaches and untouched natural environment have lured travelers who are in search for a tropical paradise that is not a tourist trap.

Located 50 kilometers from the mainland of Vietnam, Phu Quoc covers a total area of 228.98 square miles and is inhabited by more than a hundred thousand people. It has remained a sleepy backwater island throughout centuries until just a few years ago when both locals and foreign tourists started coming to the island. In 2008, ABC news named its beaches “The Cleanest and Most Beautiful Beach in the World", and seasoned travelers claim that the island reminded them of Phuket before it became a tourist hotspot. You can get to Phu Quoc by ferries or hydrofoils from Rach Gia, Ha Tien and Hon Chong, or you can fly directly to Phu Quoc International Airport which is served by Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Jetstar Pacific Airlines, and links the island to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Being a tropical paradise, Phu Quoc offers a lot of outdoor and water activities.  The best way to visit its attractions is by renting a motorbike so you have the mobility and the time to visit each one.  You can choose a beach and just spend a few hours enjoying the beach alone, but don’t forget to head to Sao Beach one of the best beaches in Phu Quoc which is the favorite of the locals and foreigners.  You can also enjoy a number of water activities such as boating, snorkeling, diving, and a night squid fishing tour. Its top attractions include Dinh Cau Rock Temple, Tranh Stream, Cao Dai Temple, Phu Quoc Waterfall, Su Muon Pagoda, Ho Quoc Temple, Da Ban Stream, Coi Nguon Museum, and the Phu Quoc National Park.  You can also check out fish sauce factories and pepper farms which are its main industries.

You must visit Phu Quoc Island now, before it gets more “touristy”.  Consult your travel agent for more details.
