6 Sunscreen Travel Tips

by Preston Travel Centre -

Even though some people burn easier than others, everyone should really make a point to wear sunscreen when you go outside. Not only does it prevent your skin from looking like a boiled lobster, but in a long-term sense it will keep your skin healthy - inside and out.

Especially when you travel, you should bring a bottle to keep your skin protected. The last thing you want on that dream vacation is a terrible sunburn. And this doesn't just apply to beach vacations. On the contrary - you'll cummulatively have more exposure over time just walking around (like sightseeing in Rome this summer).

Ladies and men now both have products available at the pharmacy that are natural moisterizers with SPF already included. I apply mine every morning before putting on my makeup, no matter what my plans are for the day.

Here are some tips to protect yourself on your next trip:

  1. Use the right amount - Don't be shy! The recommendation application is around 35-40 ml per person (per session) - a healthy handful! Make sure you fully cover all exposed areas.
  2. Apply ahead of time - To absorb properly and provide the full benefits, sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure to clean, dry skin.
  3. Reapply - Pick up a mini bottle for your carry on, and take it with you as you explore new destinations. Touch up throughout the day, especially if you're perspiring, exercising or swimming.
  4. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen - at least SPF 15 that protects you against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
  5. Don't be fooled by overcast - 80% of ultra-violet radiation still gets through on cloudy days.
  6. Check the expiration date - Sunscreen usually lasts 2 - 3 years but past that it loses its effectiveness.

Have a great trip!
